Since 2014, The New Theatre has offered exceptional plays in a small, intimate setting. TNT’s mission is two-fold: help expand the options for theatre-goers while offering actors an inviting performance opportunity. Our focus on ensemble productions enables our actors to create warm, poignant and moving stories for our audience. TNT focuses on plays about real people, the fascinating stories of everyday life, choosing playwrights who capture the beauty and resonance of the ordinary.
All profits from our productions benefit the Augusta Curtis Cultural Center.
The Ensemble: TNT actors hail from a wide variety of backgrounds, but all share a common love for community theatre. Being able to offer acting opportunities to actors of all ages and backgrounds is a core goal of TNT. Sign up for our newsletter to learn about upcoming auditions and productions!
The Director: The New Theatre of Meriden was founded by Meriden resident Donna Wolther. With her many years in theatre and production, TNT is a natural outgrowth of Donna’s passion for storytelling. While acting is a first love for Donna, directing and producing community theatre is her passion. For TNT, she has produced and directed The Cemetery Club, Over the River and Through the Woods, Love Letters, Scrooge’s Christmas, Crossing Delancey, and more.
The Venue: The Augusta Curtis Cultural Center is one of Meriden’s most treasured buildings. The three-story marble Greek Revival building, built more than a century ago, is located in the heart of Meriden across from City Hall.
The Center once served as the City’s first public library. Although its days as a library are now more than 30 years past, the Center today is a vibrant cultural resource for city residents, hosting The New Theatre, music performances, craft shows, the annual auction and more.
